The Story
“Mysterious Equations is a piece that has been with us since the genesis of The Living Past (2017). Already in pre-production Dan liked it, but we were missing the vocal line and the lyrics. The draft of the bass line was something quite sinister, in fact in its first version the piece had taken a melancholic and gloomy turn, a bit like Being Hurt. When we picked it up again during the writing sessions for Synchronizer, so with Marco on guitar, everything went in a different direction. The new melodic part – with the arrival of Andre’s voice – gave an airy and delicate atmosphere to the whole song, which Dan in England then definitively transformed with his work of subplots and synthesizers.
For me, Mysterious Equations is the emblem of our artistic evolution and maturation, the link between the “before” Piqued Jacks and those of today. It was Tommy who strongly wanted it among the singles and every time I listen to it again I am convinced more and more too.
I’m happy that I worked on something “old” and gave it a new life, without however losing our identity (in fact, the bass line remained exactly the same).”

Lyrics
Mysterious Equations
When you think you lost faith in
What it means
Love will burst your disbelief
At the sundown of your light
Some judge will crack hard the gavel
He’ll be rolling out the dice
To bet on the good of which you’re able
Mysterious equations of love
Where any reason is logical
When you think you lost faith in
What it means
Love will burst your disbelief
You can hide, you can run
But it’ll come, it’ll come
Even if you’re not ready to open up
Confessions in her eyes
Just like mirrors that can shake you
She’s the jury, she’s divine
In court, she’s the lawyer who can save you
Mysterious equations of love
Where any reason is logical
Dark places often irrational
Bring forth collateral hope
When you think you lost faith in
What it means
Love will burst your disbelief
You can hide, you can run
But it’ll come, it’ll come
Even if you’re not ready to open up
She could go away
Or stay right next to you
She could turn the clouds grey
Or make the sky damn blue
When you think you lost faith in
What it means
Love will burst your disbelief
You can hide, you can run
But it’ll come, it’ll come
Even if you’re not ready to open up
She could go away
Or stay right next to you
She could turn the clouds grey
Or make the sky damn blue
The sky damn blue
